John & Alisha Walz
My wife and I believed on the Lord Jesus Christ at young ages. After my profession of belief at the age of 8, the Lord graciously watched over my adolescence and matured my faith to where it is today and still growing. I’m joyful to look back in my life at God’s faithfulness towards His own and how God’s word brings about spiritual fruit in what was once dead. I’m confident in the cross of Jesus Christ, his death, burial, and resurrection for the salvation of my soul and future together with Him. A loving relationship between me and my Heavenly Father is everything to me.
As such, a life of full-time service to the Lord is all I desire to do with this life, until we meet Jesus face to face whom we expectantly wait for vigilantly and enduringly. I hope our lot will remain in preaching the Gospel among the unreached in China, but wherever God leads, we are surrendered to the work of the ministry.
I believe God’s hand has led us not only with a burden for China, but has led us to other Christians with the same burden to serve God in China. I have very many friends to thank for helping me pave a vision for church planting in China. Our testimony of why we serve the Lord Jesus is summarized in a simple phrase, ” Cause we get to!”
Our ministry is called Project China, which is a team of on-the-ground missionaries whose primary goals are disciple-making, church- planting, and leader-training. Through this ministry our desire is to reach China with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Disciple-making: as stated in Matthew 28:18-20 we want to clearly and boldly teach the gospel so they can believe the Gospel. We believe that every person who receives Christ should be baptized by immersion and become active in the church. We want every Christian to grow in maturity “to observe all things” and become fully devoted disciples of the Lord Jesus.
Church-planting: a fundamental problem in China is the absence of evangelizing, Bible- believing churches. We want to do more than just give everyone a chance to hear – we want to put a church within reach of every Chinese person. We want the Chinese people to have a local church in which they can “consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works”and assemble to“exhort one another.”
Leader-training: disciple-making and church-planting is a huge task, not just because of the unfathomable size of China’s population, but because of the devil’s work to restrict all movement of the Gospel into and through China. The only way that we could ever begin to make a difference against such overwhelming odds is to train Chinese leaders who can train other leaders to reach their own people with the Gospel.
This is the way that the Lord is leading us to make a lasting impact in the country of China. It is our desire to do everything possible to reach these lost souls with the Gospel. We would like to ask you to pray about what part God would have you to play in this plan.
Training & Experience
I attended Baptist Bible College for 5 years, but more importantly I cherish an invaluable amount of training from my mentors in my life. First is my father who has been faithful to the ministry as a church planter and pastor all my life and my mother who taught me much of the Lord. I served with my Dad as assistant Pastor for a number of years building my first few years of experience preaching and leading small groups in the church.
Second I owe a great deal to Pastor Griffith of Anchor Baptist Church Washington Court House, OH, whom I worked for as staff Pastor. Pastor Griffith set an excellent example of hard work zeal for the ministry which I pattern in my own ministry to this day.
Next I owe a great debt of thanks to Pastor and former missionary Austin Gardner of Vision baptist Church in Alpharetta, GA, whom has dedicated his life to training men and I being one of his men. Pastor Gardner has taught me more than any book, course, or college. Our missions philosophy and church planting is patterned after his 20 year ministry in Peru, and we continue to train under his guidance as we move forward.
Finally, I owe thanks to my friend Jake Taube, serving along with us in Project China as veteran missionary. His example is most practical to follow and he has made it easier for those after him to quickly gain their footing coming into China. Under Jake’s guidance we have completed language school and nearly two years of on the field training in Harbin, China.
Statement of Beliefs
The Bible: We believe that the BIBLE is the WORD OF GOD, and that it is divinely inspired. We believe in the plenary, verbal inspiration, that it is the only complete and final revelation of the will of GOD to man, and the supreme, infallible authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
God: We believe in the Trinity, the unity of the Godhead. There are three persons: The FATHER, The SON, and The HOLY SPIRIT. They are equally perfect in every divine quality, and execute distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption. (A) We believe in GOD the FATHER (B) We believe in JESUS CHRIST (C) We believe in the HOLY SPIRIT.
The Father: We believe in God the Father, an infinite, personal spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love. We believe that He infallibly foreknows all that shall come to pass, that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ: We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe Jesus Christ is God. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, and teachings. We believe in His substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people, and personal visible return to earth.
The Holy Spirit: We believe in the person of the Holy Spirit who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify, and empower all who believe in Jesus Christ. We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Christ, and that He is an abiding helper, teacher and guide.
Man: We believe that all men by nature, choice and practice are sinners, but that “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” We believe, therefore, that those who repent of their sins and by faith receive Christ as Lord and Savior will rejoice forever in God’s presence, and those who refuse to receive Christ as Lord and Savior will be forever separated from God.
Eternal State: We believe in a literal Heaven, the eternal home of the redeemed. We believe Heaven to be the literal place where the saved will live forever in the eternal bliss and blessings of God. We believe in Hell, the Christ-less eternity for the lost, where there will be burning and tormenting for those without salvation, who have refused to receive the gospel and Jesus Christ as Lord. We believe that Hell, unbelievers, Satan and all the fallen angels shall be cast into the lake of fire to be tormented day and night forever and forever.
Salvation: We believe salvation involves the redemption of the whole man, and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, who by His own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer. In its broadest sense salvation includes regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord.
Baptism: We believe in baptism by immersion after salvation with no merit for salvation in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost (Spirit). We reject infant baptism and any form of sprinkling for infants or adults. Baptism is an outward expression of our faith in Jesus Christ and simply a public testimony of what God has done by His grace.
The Church: We believe in the local church, consisting of a company of professing, born-again believers in Jesus Christ, immersed on a credible confession of faith, and associated for worship, work and fellowship. We believe that to those local churches we are committed, for perpetual observance of the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and that God has laid upon these churches the task of proclaiming to a lost world the acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and the enthroning of Him as Lord and Master. Its scriptural officers are pastors and deacons. While both men and women are gifted for service in the church, the office of pastor is limited to men as qualified by Scripture.
Eternal Security: We believe in the eternal security of all blood-bought individuals or believers and that such inheritance is incorruptible, and undefiled, and that each believer is kept by the power of God and nothing can separate us from Him, ourselves included. We believe that believers can lose the joy of fellowship with God, can grieve God and can quench the Spirit of God in him or her, but not lose his/her salvation.
